South Wales Fire and Rescue Service says it is dealing with localised flooding in Newport.

A spokesman said three crews were in the Maindee area after the service received 18 calls about flooding in properties since 16:30 GMT.

Gwent Police say there is also flooding on the Southern Distributor Road and highways officials are at the scene.

Meanwhile, one lane is closed on the westbound Second Severn Crossing following an earlier vehicle fire.

The motorway was closed both ways between junctions 22 (M49) and 23 (Magor), after a camper van carrying a gas cylinder was on fire on the hard shoulder.

The eastbound side reopened at 16:45 GMT and the westbound side reopened at 17:10 GMT but the South Wales Trunk Road Agency is warning of long delays.
