Hundreds of people supporting the search for missing Stone Roses fan Chris Brahney gathered in Manchester's Piccadilly Gardens for a rally.

Friends, relatives and some of the 80,000 people who have joined a Facebook appeal to find the 22-year-old from Timperley attended on Thursday.

Mr Brahney has not been seen since the band's Heaton Park gig last Friday.

His father, Stuart, told the crowd their support has given the family "a tremendous amount of strength".

Volunteers took hundreds of leaflets and posters to distribute across the city and further afield.

Friend Tom Ainsworth attended the Stone Roses gig with Chris, and said he lost his phone and became separated from their group.

Since then police and volunteers have been conducting searches of areas around possible sightings of Chris.

Mr Ainsworth said: "You can't just disappear but it seems to all intents and purposes that he has.

"That's why we need people to get in touch, someone must know something."

Mr Brahney, who is white and slim with short, brown hair, was last seen wearing a dark blue top, light blue shirt, maroon trousers and green Wellington boots.

Police believe he may have used the park and ride facility at Bowlee Park, in Heywood Old Road towards Middleton, shortly before midnight last Friday.

Coaches were travelling from the site to destinations across the UK, and the police search has been widened nationwide.
