Victim critical after attack outside Small Heath mosque

A 22-year-old man is in hospital with "life threatening" injuries after being attacked outside a Birmingham mosque.

West Midlands Police said they were called to the junction of Somerville Road and St Oswalds Road in Small Heath at about 14:30 BST.

Police said the man had suffered serious head injuries and was in hospital in a critical condition.

Officers cordoned off the area and worshippers for Friday Prayers were being diverted from the scene.

Police were talking to witnesses and said they were treating the incident as a case of serious disorder.

Police also said the mosque authorities were co-operating with officers.
