A Greater Manchester Police officer has been summonsed to face a charge of dangerous driving after a crash that left a man with serious injuries.

PC Daniel Aimson, 30, who is based at Swinton Police Station, was driving a marked police car which collided with two other cars in Leigh last November.

A 44-year-old travelling in one of the cars underwent surgery after the crash.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPPC) said PC Aimson would be charged later this month.

It carried out an investigation into the crash after it was referred by Greater Manchester Police.

The police car collided with two others at the junction of Lord Street and Spinning Jenny Way at about 09:45 GMT on 27 November.

One of the cars then collided with a third vehicle.

The IPCC said the officer was due to appear before Wigan Magistrates' Court on 28 June.
