Four people have been arrested in Rochdale during a protest by the British National Party over a child sex grooming case, police have said.

A small group of activists handed out leaflets in Heywood following last week's jailing of nine members of a child sex grooming gang.

Later protesters attempted to force their way into Rochdale Town Hall during a council meeting.

Four arrests were made, including one for racially aggravated public order.

Last week, eight men of Pakistani origin and one Afghan national were jailed for between four and 19 years.

The men from Rochdale and Oldham exploited girls as young as 13.

They were found guilty of offences including rape and conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a child.

Liverpool Crown Court heard the group plied five victims with drink and drugs and "passed them around" for sex.
