Polls open for Liverpool directly elected mayor vote

Voting has begun for Liverpool's first directly elected mayor and for seven other local councils.

In Liverpool 30 council seats are also up for election.

Voting for the election of councillors to represent wards in Knowsley, Wirral, St Helens, Sefton, Halton and Warrington is also taking place.

Counting of votes for Liverpool's mayoral election will begin once the polls close at 22:00 BST, with a result expected in the early hours of Friday.
