Train hits car on level crossing in Cambridgeshire

A train has collided with a car on a level crossing in Cambridgeshire.

The accident happened at 08:00 GMT on Saturday at the Victoria Street crossing in Littleport and involved a car with two people inside.

A man was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge and the other person suffered minor injuries.

The crossing has been closed and train services suspended, with replacement buses taking passengers between Downham Market in Norfolk and Ely.

The main train operator on the line between Ely and King's Lynn is First Capital Connect which said journey times would take about 30 minutes longer.

The spokesman said the arrangement would continue until further notice.

Customers have been advised to check its website.

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) is investigating the cause of the crash.
