Woman dies after two-car crash in Drybridge

A 23-year-old woman has died following a crash near Irvine in Ayrshire.

The accident happened on Shewalton Road, Drybridge, at about 1350 GMT.

A Strathclyde Police spokesman said the woman was driving a silver Vauxhall Astra which was in collision with a red Toyota Auris.

She was taken to Crosshouse Hospital, Kilmarnock, where she died a short time later. The driver of the Toyota and her four-year-old son were also taken to hospital.

The boy has since been transferred to the Yorkhill Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow where he is in a stable condition.

His mother was released after treatment.

Police have asked anyone with information to contact them.
