French police find eight dead newborn babies
Published: 28th Jul 2010 18:53:27
Police in France have arrested a couple after the bodies of eight newborn babies were found in a village, officials said.
Police were continuing to search parts of a property in the village of Villers-au-Tertre, near Calais in northern France, the officials said.
Prosecutors in the nearby city of Douai were expected to begin a legal inquiry on Thursday, AFP news agency reported.
The two arrested are said to be in their 40s.
The bodies were found in a house and a garden, the officials said.
Detectives first searched the house two days ago following a tip-off, AFP reported.
