Coastguards rescue four people stranded fishing
Published: 18th Jul 2010 12:25:33
Four people, including a 14-year-old boy, had to be rescued by coastguards after becoming stranded while fishing at a cliff base in Pembrokeshire.
Coastguards based at Tenby and an RAF helicopter were called to help the group at Lydstep on Saturday evening.
The group called for help when they did not think they could return safely.
Meanwhile, Mumbles lifeboat rescued a small fishing boat as it drifted across the shipping channel at Swansea Docks and towed it to Swansea Marina.
The RNLI lifeboat was launched on Saturday evening after the fishing boat crew made a mayday call to say they had lost power.
The 16ft (4.87m) boat was in danger of drifting on to the beach at Jersey Marina.
Lifeboat crewman Chris Jeffries said: "Their engine was over heating and it wouldn't run long enough to help them against the rough sea and strong wind."
Tim Conway, of Mumbles RNLI, said: "A mayday call is very serious and the casualty vessel fortunately had the good sense to carry a VHF radio and call us before they got into serious trouble."
