More than 110 people have died and many more are feared injured after a fire tore through buildings in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Emergency services, criticised for their slow response, blamed an electrical transformer fault for sparking the blaze in the centre of the Bangladeshi capital.

Many of the victims were attending a wedding on the rooftop of the building which first caught fire.

Flames, which leapt up to 300ft in the air, spread to at least five adjoining buildings, including a plastic factory.

There are fears the death-toll from the country's worst fire in decades could rise considerably as rescuers sift through the charred wreckage of the gutted buildings.
