Men sought over bookmaker raids
Published: 23rd Feb 2010 12:00:57
Two men are being sought over a spate of armed robberies at bookmakers in the north and east of Glasgow.
The raids targeted William Hill shops in Baillieston, Moodiesburn and Muirhead between 1845 GMT and 2055 GMT on Monday.
Staff were threatened with a firearm and, in total, a three figure sum of cash was taken.
A small, dark-coloured car was used in all of the robberies. Police said that none of the shop staff were injured.
The first suspect is described as white, about 5ft 6in, with a slim build.
He spoke with a local accent.
The man was wearing a black bomber-style jacket, dark jeans, a hooded top, black gloves and had a pale, striped scarf over his face.
The second suspect is described as white, about 5ft 10in, with a medium build.
He did not enter the bookmakers and was seen during one incident wearing a high visibility vest and in another, a black hooded top. His face was covered with a dark-coloured scarf.
The first robbery targeted the William Hill bookmakers at Main Street, Baillieston, at about 1950 GMT.
This was followed by a further robbery at the shop on Cumbernauld Road, Muirhead, at about 1845 GMT.
The final robbery took place at the bookmakers on Larchfield Road, Moodiesburn, at about 2055 GMT.
Det Insp Bob Frew, of Strathclyde Police, said: "We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed these robberies, at any of the locations, to come forward.
"It may be that they have seen the men acting suspiciously around the area of the bookmakers, either before or after the robberies took place.
"The descriptions of the suspects are very good and I feel certain that people will know the identities of these men."
