A historic building in Cheshire was badly damaged in an arson attack, police have said.
Police were called to Bewsey Old Hall in Warrington at about 03:00 BST on Sunday by firefighters.
Investigators assessed the scene and established the fire had been started maliciously, a spokesman for Cheshire Police said.
The building is listed and is subject to a preservation order as it is home to four different breeds of bat.
Police have appealed to any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the force or Crimestoppers anonymously.
