A huge fire at a 19th Century country mansion in Perthshire has left the building "extensively damaged".

The alarm was raised at 1600 BST on Saturday by the occupier of Argaty House, near Doune, who was not in the house when the fire broke out.

The blaze broke out in the roof space of the four-storey building.

A fire service spokesman said 12 appliances attended at the height of the blaze with two aerial pumps being used to extinguish the flames.

Kenny Rodgers, Central Scotland Fire and Rescue Service incident commander, said the property was left "extensively damaged".

Crews remained in place into the night damping down the fire.

Mr Rodgers said an investigation into the cause of the fire would be launched.
