Ben Morutare stab death: Boy contacts police

A 14-year-old boy has contacted police investigating the death of a teenager from Walsall.

Ben Morutare, 16, was stabbed outside the Smethwick Home Guard and Old Comrades Club on 28 July.

West Midlands Police said the 14-year-old came forward after pictures of 12 people officers want to speak to were released on Thursday.

A 17-year-old boy has been charged with murder and two other 17-year-olds have been charged with violent disorder.

A number of people remain on police bail.

Det Ch Insp Bob Hazel said: "We know there were lots of people around when Ben was stabbed and there are still many who haven't come forward or who we haven't been able to identify.

"We believe some of those in the CCTV stills could be vital witnesses who have crucial information which would assist our investigation.

"It is good to see that someone has come forward and we are urging anyone else who recognises themselves to get in touch with us as soon as possible."

A statement from Ben's family said: "It's still surreal that Ben is not coming back. We need justice for our Ben: he was a good and loving child.

"We ask for anyone who has any information on his attack to contact the police, please."
