Up to 40 firefighters have tackled a blaze in a pile of tyres in a field near Heathrow Airport.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) said crews were called at about 16:00 BST to the blaze at a property along the A4 Bath Road, west London.

A plume of black smoke can still be seen in the area, including from the airport, but the airport said there had been "no impact" on its operations.

The fire was brought under control at about 18:30 BST, but the smoke remains.

Bath Road has been closed due to smoke blowing across the road.

LFB has advised residents in the area to keep their doors and windows closed. Up to 90 people called LFB to report the fire.

Station manager Mark Ripley said: "Our crews are working really hard to bring this fire under control.

"No-one in the area has been evacuated but because the fire has generated a lot of smoke, we are advising residents to keep doors and windows closed as a precaution."

The cause of the blaze is unknown at the moment, the fire brigade said.

BBC London travel reporter Jules Lang said the fire had led to the closure of the Bath Road in both directions between the A312, The Parkway and the A30, Great South-West Road.
