Leeds 'hit-and-run' leaves brother and sister critical
Published: 18th Aug 2012 23:33:05
A two-year-old boy and his 10-year-old sister were critically injured when they were knocked down in an apparent hit-and-run in Leeds.
Police urged the driver of the silver Vauxhall Astra which hit the children in Brudenell Road in the Hyde Park area on Saturday afternoon to come forward.
The crash happened at about 17:20 BST as they crossed the road with another child near the Makkah Masjid mosque.
The boy and girl were said to be in a critical condition after surgery.
They are being treated at Leeds General Infirmary.
Det Supt Paul Taylor said: "We are in the early stages of investigating this incident but have already secured CCTV which detectives are studying, and spoken to witnesses.
"The family of these youngsters are understandably extremely distressed and for their sake we are keen to trace this driver as soon as possible."
He urged anyone with information to contact West Yorkshire Police or Crimestoppers.
