Woman charged over toddler Rio Smedley death in Bolton
Published: 8th Aug 2012 14:56:46
A woman has been charged following the death of a two-year-old boy in Bolton.
Kirsty Smedley, 23, appeared at Bolton Magistrates' Court earlier, accused of allowing or causing the death of toddler Rio Smedley.
Rio was taken to hospital from his home in Cheriton Drive, Breightmet, on 22 April and died of a severe abdominal injury.
Daniel Rigby, 22, of Somerset Avenue, Tyldesley, Wigan, has already been charged with the toddler's murder.
Police were called to the address following reports the toddler had gone into cardiac arrest.
He was taken to Royal Bolton Hospital, where he later died.
A post-mortem examination concluded that Rio had died as a result of sustaining the abdominal injury.
Ms Smedley and Mr Rigby are due to appear at Manchester Crown Court on Thursday.
