Man accused of 2005 and 2012 Ardoyne riot offences

A man has been remanded in custody accused of involvement in two separate outbreaks of rioting in north Belfast seven years apart.

Alan Daniel Lundy was arrested by detectives investigating attacks on police officers in Ardoyne last week.

The 33-year-old, of Rosehead Drive, Belfast, faces charges of riotous assembly on 12 July in 2005 and 2012.

He is also accused of possessing an offensive weapon, a wooden plank, on Ardoyne Road in the 2005 incident.

Charges were brought against him as part of a probe into the violence which erupted around a contentious Orange Order parade and counter-demonstration.

More than 20 police officers were injured when petrol bombs, bricks, stones and bottles were thrown at them amid the disorder.

As Lundy appeared before Belfast Magistrates' Court supporters packed the public gallery.

They heard him being refused bail due to the risk of possible re-offending or failing to abide by release conditions.

Lundy was remanded in custody to appear again by videolink next month.
