Man arrested over fatal crash on M25 in Hertfordshire

A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a woman in her 80s died in a crash on the M25 in Hertfordshire.

The woman, from Essex, was a passenger in a Vauxhall Astra car, which was crushed between two lorries near junctions 22 and 23 on Thursday night.

The arrested man, 27, from Kettering, Northamptonshire, was released on police bail until 19 October.

The Astra driver, a man in his 40s from Essex, was taken to Barnet Hospital.

His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Police are appealing for witnesses and information to the crash, which happened at about 23:00 BST.

The lorry drivers were not injured.

PC Martin Longley, of Hertfordshire Police, said: "I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or who was travelling along the road and saw the vehicles involved either before, during or after the collision to please get in contact."

The carriageway was closed for five hours while emergency services dealt with the collision.
