A member of Anglesey council who was suspended for six months is to appeal the decision.

Hefin Thomas, who chairs the authority's audit committee, was disciplined after a conviction last year for falsely claiming benefits.

However, the appeal means that the council ban will be lifted until a hearing resolves the dispute.

His position as chair of the audit committee will also be discussed in July.

Council officials said they had been informed of Mr Thomas's intention to appeal his suspension.

"Councillor Thomas has until July 11 to lodge his appeal papers with the Adjudication Panel for Wales.

"A suspension would not come into effect until the appeal process has been concluded," said a council statement.

"Councillor Thomas is therefore now free to represent the electorate of Pentraeth and Llanddona and attend council meetings during the interim period."

The appeal hearing is likely to be held in October.
