Published: 28th Jun 2012 14:48:02
A man has been arrested by South Wales Police on suspicion of murder after one man was stabbed to death and another critically injured.
Thomas Sutton, 20, from Caerau, died and a 17-year-old youth, named locally as Kyle Harris, is in hospital after an incident in Nantyffyllon, near Maesteg.
Emergency services were called to Tonna Road in the village at about 21:00 BST on Tuesday.
Police confirmed on Thursday that a 22-year-old local man had been arrested.
Mr Sutton, a former Maesteg Comprehensive School pupil, was one of seven children, including a 13-month-old baby brother Macauley.
His mother, Joanne Sutton, 42, said her son had a "heart of gold" and said the family was "just numb".
In a statement released via police she said: "Thomas was a loving, caring, son, brother, uncle and grandson.
"He would show a kindness for anyone if he could and sometimes this has gone unnoticed.
"Thomas loved life and will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He had his faults but his caring side to his family is what we will remember him for."
The injured teenager, named locally as Kyle Harris, 17, is being treated at the Princess of Wales Hospital in Bridgend.
Det Chief Insp Paul Hurley, who is leading the inquiry, said: "The community response has been excellent with regards to the information that has been received in connection with this incident.
"I would like to reiterate my appeal for information and urge anyone who was in the Tonna Road area between 7:00pm and 9:30pm on Tuesday evening or anyone who witnessed the incident to contacts us."
Witnesses or anyone with information are asked to contact the incident room at Bridgend Police Station on 01656 306099 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
