Cheryl Cole lands record-breaking number one single

Cheryl Cole's single Call My Name has gone straight to number one and become the fastest-selling single of 2012.

Call My Name, the first single from Cole's forthcoming third album, sold 152,000 copies in its first week, said the Official Charts Company.

The song displaced Gary Barlow's Diamond Jubilee track Sing from the top spot, and surpassed its record sales of 142,000 copies in one week.

But Barlow held on the number one spot in the album chart for a third week.

Barlow, who was appointed an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours, is raising money for the Queen's Jubilee charities with the official Jubilee album - which is also called Sing.

It beat off competition from Amy MacDonald's new release Life In A Beautiful Light, which came in at number two.

Usher's new album Looking 4 Myself settled for the number three spot.

Completing the top five were Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto at number four, and Paloma Faith's Fall To Grace at number five.

Cole has now notched up three number one singles in her solo career.

The first two were Fight For This Love, lead single from her debut solo album in 2009, and Promise This from her second album in 2010.

Call My Name is also the first single released simply under the name Cheryl and is taken from her new album A Million Lights.

The singer earlier this week also announced that she would be going out on her first solo UK and Ireland arena tour from October.

Call My Name was the only new entry in the top 20.

Gary Barlow's single Sing, co-written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and featuring 210 musicians, fell to number three while US rapper Flo Rida was a non-mover at number two with Whistle.

Coldplay's collaboration with Rihanna, Princess of China, climbed to fourth place - ahead of Feel The Love by Rudimental featuring John Newman at number five.
