Diamond Jubilee: Dorset celebrations continue
Published: 4th Jun 2012 11:20:50
People in Dorset are continuing to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee with events across the county.
Swanage is hosting entertainments including a jubilee tea for 600 people on the town's high street.
The event is in the same location as the celebrations for Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897.
The town also has a Jubilee beacon, part of the national chain of beacons, which is due to be lit after 22.00 BST.
On Bournemouth seafront a free two-day celebration of live music and dance culminates with a finale at 22:30 BST.
Street parties planned include events in Mount Grace Drive and Tremlow Avenue in Poole.
On Sunday almost 70 street parties took place while a parade of boats along Weymouth seafront marked The Queen's 60 years on the throne.
Crowds lined the seafront to watch a demonstration from the local RNLI and coastguard search and rescue helicopters off the pier head.
The town's lifeboat led a flotilla from the harbour along the seafront
The town's lifeboat then led a flotilla from the harbour along the seafront.
The Mayor of Weymouth and Portland Margaret Leicester and commodore of The Royal Dorset Yacht Club Graham Castell took the salute outside Custom House Quay.
In Dorchester, the town is flying about 170 union jack flags from newly installed flagpoles outside homes and businesses.
The flags, along High West Street and High East Street, will remain in place throughout the summer as nearby Weymouth prepares to host the sailing and windsurfing at the London 2012 Olympics.
