The police watchdog is to investigate after a missing woman was found dead near Bristol.

Louise Jones, 20, from Redditch was found dead by police officers at Rodway Hill on 30 March.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) confirmed it had decided to investigate the incident.

It said the investigation will focus on actions taken by Avon and Somerset Police after it was called for assistance by West Mercia Police.

Ms Jones was considered a high-risk missing person by West Mercia Police, her local force, when it contacted Avon and Somerset Police.

West Mercia Police asked for "urgent checks" to be made when Ms Jones's car was spotted on the motorway near Bristol at 02:30 BST.

Ms Jones also rang the force an hour later but was unable to give her location.

She was later found dead by police officers at Rodway Hill at 07:07 BST.

IPCC Commissioner Naseem Malik said: "The IPCC investigation will focus on the actions taken by Avon and Somerset Constabulary after they were called for assistance by West Mercia Police at 2.30am."

Avon and Somerset Police said it had no comment to make until the IPCC investigation had been completed.
